Religious Education

This Key Stage is delivered across two years (Years 10 and 11).

This is an optional subject.

Contact Time

Contact time is five lessons a fortnight.

Exam Information

Students will study the Edexcel Religious Studies B Specification: Beliefs in Action 

For the Religion and Ethics through Christianity unit, students will explore units on Christian Beliefs, Marriage and the Family, Living the Christian Life and Matters of Life and Death. The paper consists of 4 questions and lasts 1 hour and 45 mins and is 50% of the overall grade. It is not tiered so all grade ranges are available. Students will sit this paper at the end of Year 11.

For the Religion, Peace and Conflict unit, students will explore units on Muslim Beliefs, Crime and Punishment, Living the Muslim Life and Peace and Conflict. The paper consists of 4 questions and lasts 1 hour and 45 mins and is 50% of the overall grade. It is not tiered so all grade ranges are available. Students will sit this paper at the end of Year 11.

Students who do not choose RE as an option will study core RE. They have one lesson a fortnight and explore ethical and religious issues such as transplant surgery, wealth and poverty, ethical theories and our ever changing attitude to homosexuality, cohabitation and marriage.
