Sixth Form Bursary Fund 2017-18

The Department for Education has allocated an amount of money to Arden to allow the school to grant bursaries to students on low incomes to contribute towards the costs of studying at Arden.

Eligibility

To be eligible to receive a bursary you must be a full time student at Arden Sixth Form and be aged under 19 on 31st August in the academic year in which you begin your programme.

 To receive a bursary you must satisfy the following conditions:

1)   Year 12 must register every morning at 8.40am. No more than 5 exceptions per term will be allowed whatever the circumstances.

2)   Year 13 must register in accordance with the rules laid down at the beginning of term.

3)   You must attend all lessons.  Any lessons missed through illness must be supported by a letter from parents or guardians within 7 days of the absence occurring.  Failure to adhere to this will result in the following term’s bursary being withheld.

The three levels of payment at Arden

Level One

Who?

You must be in or have recently left local authority care to receive this bursary or receive

Income Support in your name.

 How is it Paid?

Any balance not allocated against school trips and other events paid directly by Arden will be

paid to the student by BACS transfer at the end of each term.

Level Two

Who?

Those who were in receipt of free school meals in year 11 and continue to do so in year 12/13

How is it paid?

BACS transfer at the end of each term

Level Three

Who?

Those with a household income of less than £28,000 per year

How is it paid?

BACS transfer at the end of each term

The Process you should follow

If you think you are eligible for a bursary you should apply as soon as possible after admission in September.

A panel consisting of Head of Sixth Form, Principal and a Governor will meet each academic year to examine claims.

For all applications appropriate evidence will be asked for which may include proof of free meal entitlement, P60 etc.

Claims for bursaries for the full academic year 2017/18 can only be accepted up to the 30th November 2017. Requests made after this will automatically be allocated to the following term and cannot be backdated.
