Online safety update

We know that Christmas is a time when many of our pupils will receive gifts of new phones, tablets, computers and games. It is important that you know that they are using these products safely and that they are set up securely so they don't give away personal information or allow them to get into trouble online.

I therefore thought that you may find some of the following links useful and also please find attached the resources from the Parents Information evening on online safety last term.

http://www.saferinternet.org.uk/advice-and-resources/parents-and-carers/parental-controls How to set up your safety controls on BT, Sky, Virgin or Talk Talk broadband. Useful to ensure that age inappropriate materials aren't access on devices connected to your home internet access.

http://support.xbox.com/en-GB/xbox-360/security/xbox-live-parental-control How to set parental controls on Xbox 360 and Xbox Live

https://support.us.playstation.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5097/~/ps4-parental-controls How to set parental controls on PS4 (links to other Sony gaming devices can be found through the website) - this includes restricting games, DVDs and Blu-Rays that have age ratings.

What was really evident from our online-safety evening was that although the key messages are the same the apps, software, games etc.. can move on quickly and we need to know the potential dangers and discuss these with children so they can make the best choices. Keep reading the messages, newsletters and our safety section on the website. We send out links and advice on our twitter (@ArdenAcademy), Facebook (Search for Arden Academy page) and Schoolcomms accounts.
