Parent Governor Vacancy

Vacancy for a Parent Governor at Arden
I writing to you to make you aware of an exciting opportunity to take an active role in the future success and development of the school. We have a vacancy for a new Parent Governor to join the Arden Local Governing Body (LGB). The LGB play a vital role in the life of the school, providing support, challenge and insight as a ‘critical friend’. This vacancy therefore offers the right candidate a unique opportunity to make a significant contribution to the school, the lives of our students and staff and the wider community.
To qualify, you must currently have a child who attends Arden Academy, although you do not need to have a child here throughout the whole four year period of your term of office.
As a Parent Governor you will sit on our Full Board and also support one of our sub-committees, focusing either on Behaviour, Safety, Inclusion & Intervention (BSII) or Teaching & Learning (T&L). Each Governor is also linked with one or two department areas, providing support and challenge to our Heads of Departments and a direct connection between the board and the day to day life of the school.
The expectation of governing bodies of all schools has increased in recent years making this a challenging but hugely rewarding opportunity. Effective and engaged governors are central to the life of our school and a highly valued aspect of our drive for continued school improvement. You would, therefore, need to be able to commit to supporting the school through attendance and contributions to meetings and to be able to reflect on school wide discussion. As a Parent Governor, you will of course bring your unique perspective to these discussions, but it is important that you are able to do so objectively and not be unduly influenced by your own child’s perspective or individual circumstances or issues.
If you would like to stand for election you should complete the form attached and have it signed by a proposer and three other parents/guardians of pupils at the school. Please return the form to the School Office in a sealed envelope clearly marked ParentGovernor Elections. The closing date for the receipt of nominations is 9.00am on Friday 7th February 2020.
You should also supply a short statement (not more than 100 words) in support of your candidature.
It should be noted that no individual may be a Governor of more than two schools. There are also circumstances that disqualify an individual from being a Governor, please see the attached guidance.
These are exciting times for Arden and I encourage you to stand for election. It is very important that parents offer their time, knowledge, support and experience so we can fill this important position. An information sheet on the role of a Parent Governor is also attached for information.
